Volunteer with Grate Patrol | The Salvation Army
The Salvation Army needs volunteers every night of the year to cook and serve approximately 120-150 evening meals to our neighbors living on the streets.
While we are fortunate many groups host a monthly shift, we are still in need of more groups to cook and deliver, both for single days of service and for regular, monthly commitments.
Typically, large groups use their own sites to prepare meals for delivery. We provide guidance for meal preparation in advance. In addition, small groups of 2-8 people assist with meal delivery. Four people can ride along in the canteen; others may follow in their own cars.
The canteen leaves from The Salvation Army Harbor Light Center (2100 New York Ave NE) around 6:15 PM and returns around 9:30 PM. There is free parking at this location. The canteen visits approximately eight stops.
The Grate Patrol is named for the heating grates where many homeless congregate - help us feed and comfort those in need in DC!
